What's the Plan?

Spring rains often leave Lake Glenville full of lake litter, like branches, dock floats, and more. Let’s get rid of them to make it safer for boaters and watersports. We suggest you start out working the area nearest to your home and dock and then move out from there.

Boat captains and crew can pick up your “goody bucket” stuffed with water, snacks, a contractor bag, and other giveaways at the Pine Creek Ramp take-out area.

Then: LUNCH IS ON US!  Clean-up participants are invited to join us for a complimentary appreciation lunch at Happ’s Place from 2:00 - 4:00pm. Wristbands will be distributed at Pine Creek when you bring in your load!

Safety First! Because of our extreme spring rains, Lake Glenville is full of logs, branches and a record number of black “dock floats." Let’s get rid of them to make it safer for boaters and watersports. We suggest you start out working the area nearest to your home and dock and then move out from there.

Know the Guidelines: There are a number of rules and guidelines for safely and efficiently cleaning up the lake. Please review them here on our website before hitting the lake. Our Boating Safety Committee also provides this handy guide and quick checklist for ensuring you and your crew know and can follow the Rules of the Road.

Please Note: Participation in this Lake Clean-Up event is voluntary and should be done at your own risk. By participating, participants release Friends of Lake Glenville, Inc from all claims associated with injury, property damage and/or negligence.

Who Can Help? EVERYONE!  You don't need to be an FLG Member to participate, but we do hope you'll join us.

Tell Us You're Coming!

It's all hands on deck! We welcome all members of the community, so you don't have to be an FLG member to participate. We'd love to know you're coming, though, and to know where we can send more information as we get nearer to the event.

Clean-Up Guidelines

  • USE CAUTION & AVOID INJURY: Please do not injure yourself attempting to pick up large items. Always use two people to lift heavy items. If you don’t know where to take the items once removed, rope them and tie them securely to shore and let someone from FLG know their location.
  • ONLY MAN-MADE DEBRIS IS TO BE REMOVED FROM THE LAKE: All trees, logs, and any type of woody debris is to remain within the Project Boundary. If a tree or log is found floating free in the lake, it can be towed to the shoreline, somewhere it won’t interfere with boating access to any dock, and anchored so that it doesn’t float off but it must not be removed from the lake. Any smaller woody debris (limbs, branches, etc.) should either be left in the water or they can be placed in the 10 vertical foot peripheral strip of land owned by Duke Energy.
  • DO NOT REMOVE TREES OR BUSHES ATTACHED TO THE SHORLINE: Under Duke Energy guidelines they must be left where they are for fish habitat.
  • GET PERMISSION: The only exception to the above rule is when trees or bushes are interfering with the operation of a dock. In this case permission must be obtained from Duke before removal.
  • PROPERLY DISPOSE OF LITTER/DEBRIS: Please place smaller, man-made items in a plastic bag and deliver them to a trash receptable.
  • PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY: Be sure to cover your boats with plastic or sheeting to prevent damage when onloading debris or navigating around particularly debris-heavy areas.

Our sincerest thanks to the companies, home owner's associations, non-profits, and local businesses that contribute towards FLG's mission-forward initiatives, volunteer opportunities, and special events.
